Battlefield 6's Relaxed Playlist Ignites Intense Debates Over AI Players, Experience Points, and Wait Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a new playlist called Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option mirrors the regular Breakthrough format but features several notable adjustments:
- Every squad includes only 8 human participants, with the remaining filled by AI-controlled opponents.
- Activities performed by human gamers award full XP, while AI activities provide lower rewards.
- Just a pair of locations can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
- Elements like Player tags, achievements, and career stat updates are disabled.
In short, the playlist delivers on its name: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume there's nothing wrong, since it provides more options for gamers seeking alternative ways to enjoy the title. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, many BF6 players are mad.
Community Reactions: Anger to Praise
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the errors of your rivals," states one reply to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking idea," comments a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," and someone else lists all the issues they consider to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this bot mode."
However, amid the criticism, some gamers sharing how much they're liking the new mode. "It's very fun to warm up, real players prevent it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this title all the time. Let them strike a balance," states a different comment. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," while another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Constructive Criticisms and Community Input
Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have pointed out that it will make wait times more extended for other modes due to the sheer number of playlists in the game already. Similarly, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of real players, even though it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that a previous feature was promised to offer complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to remove XP farming from the system. Thus Casual Breakthrough feels like the community meeting them in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. A different user describes this addition as the devs "dropping the ball significantly, I experienced great enjoyment in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?
If Battlefield Studios has proven anything to date with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and responding to feedback. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted rapidly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data shows this new playlist isn't performing to their standards, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
