People have assembled around the country to commemorate 24 months since the Hamas-initiated attack on October 7th, 2023, as negotiations proceeded in Egypt over a conclusion to the hostilities in Gaza.

The attack saw in excess of 1,200 people killed and 251 others captured back to Gaza as prisoners. It was the uniquely most fatal day for the Jewish community since the World War II.

Israel answered by initiating a armed campaign in Gaza which has taken in excess of 67,000 people, as reported by the area's Hamas-administered health ministry. Its statistics are considered trustworthy by the UN and other world agencies.

"Our bloodthirsty enemies have struck forcefully, but they have not broken us," the prime minister remarked on Tuesday.

He also pledged to "accomplish all the aims of the war: the release of all the abducted, the elimination of the Hamas regime and the assurance that Gaza will no longer present a risk to Israel".

Commemorative Events Across Israel

The government authorities delayed formal remembrance events until mid-October - after the conclusion of the festive season - but events still took place across the country on Tuesday.

A remembrance service for the families of people who lost their lives in the Hamas assault was conducted in the coastal city. Arranged by the families themselves, it was aired on Israeli TV networks.

Hours earlier, a moment of silence was respected around the country.

Negotiation Meetings in Egypt

Simultaneously, Israeli and Hamas delegations convened in the North African Red Sea resort of the negotiation venue for a continuing round of mediated discussions to examine the provisions of the agreement.

A prominent representative knowledgeable about the talks indicated that an late session of indirect talks began at 19:00 Cairo time.

The official explained the earlier meeting finished without significant progress, because of disagreements over the recommended Israeli retreat arrangements from Gaza and over guarantees Hamas seeks to ensure Israel does not restart combat after the initial stage of the agreement.

He noted that the talks are "difficult and have not yet deliver any major advancement," but noted that mediators are making efforts to narrow the gaps between the two sides.

Essential Points in Discussions

  • A lasting ceasefire
  • The swap of the captives still kept by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners from Gaza
  • The pullout of military personnel from Gaza
  • Arrangements for humanitarian aid deliveries
  • Future governance of the region

Public Feeling

In Tel Aviv's public square previously, young Hagar - whose brother endured the incident on the gathering, where 378 people were lost their lives and numerous more were captured by Hamas fighters - shared: "Nowhere feels like home any longer and until each abducted person return none of us will have peace of mind."

"When we see everyone home once more, we can feel relief anew. Then we can commence rebuild," she continued.

Outside the prime minister's residence in Jerusalem, people gathered to express their solidarity for the loved ones of the abducted. Israel says 48 stay in detention in Gaza, 20 of whom are believed to be surviving.

Protester one woman stated: "We need do every compromise required for the abducted to return. But we sincerely need promises that we will be protected."

Research now regularly indicate that about seventy percent of Israelis want the conflict to finish in exchange for the freedom of the captives.

Palestinian Situation

At the site of the music event, mourners assembled to honor the dead.

From there, the noise of Israeli air strikes and explosions could be detected just a few kilometres away in Gaza, where observers reported the heavy Israeli bombardment carried on.

In the main city, attacks were reported in the dawn of Tuesday in the western neighborhood, Rimal and Nasr neighbourhoods and in the eastern district of that sector, as well the settlement to the northwestern area.

"Once the dusk arrives, the anxiety appears with it," evacuated Gaza City resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose teenage son was killed by an Israeli aerial attack last year, explained.

"We are terrified of the bombings. Throughout the evening we are lying together, holding each other, especially my smallest child who puts his head on me the entire evening."

"Every second we check the updates to see what happened. And I'm worried that this halt will not be completed and that the conflict will come back to us."
