Seamer Atkinson Compounds the English team's Injury Worries.
'Major setback' for the English camp after Atkinson leaves the field due to a hamstring issue.
The English seamer added to the injury concerns plaguing England after leaving the playing area on the second morning of the fourth Ashes Test versus the Australians.
The pace bowler experienced discomfort in his hamstring immediately following a delivery in his spell at the MCG.
The England team indicated Atkinson reported "discomfort" and required time off the field for further assessment "during the day".
The concluding match in this Ashes battle in Sydney gets underway on Sunday, 4 January.
The visitors have previously lost fast bowlers Mark Wood due to knee trouble and Jofra Archer to a side strain on this Ashes tour.
Matthew Fisher was brought into the squad as cover for Wood.
The seamer had a tough time early in the series, claiming a mere three wickets.
He was dropped for the Adelaide match, before being recalled for the fourth Test as Archer's replacement.
Atkinson improved at the MCG, bagging two scalps in Australia's first innings, and scoring 28 runs with the bat being one of only three teammates to reach double figures.
Post a single over in Australia's second innings, he returned on Saturday morning and had nightwatchman edging to the keeper.
However, at the end of the fifth over, he bowled a change of pace to Travis Head and immediately felt his left hamstring.
Gus Atkinson returned to the side for the Boxing Day Test after being left out the Adelaide game.
