The President Welcomes Families of Attacked Guard Personnel to the White House
Former President Donald Trump revealed on the weekend that he has invited the family of a National Guard member killed last week to attend the presidential home.
He added that he spoke to her family and they were “heartbroken”.
Background on the Heartbreaking Event
Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was lost her life in a shooting on Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her comrade, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, remains hospitalized in grave state.
Gatherings across West Virginia have been held in their remembrance.
Presidential Offer
The commander-in-chief explained he’s proposed a visit to the White House for the families of both individuals of the state National Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a difficult moment, arrive at the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” Trump told reporters. “And in the same way with him, no matter the outcome.”
Public Response
Attendees assembled over the weekend at a local school in West Virginia to pay respects to Beckstrom.
Both the soldiers had been fulfilling duties with the state guard as part of Trump’s federal initiative to assist policing efforts in Washington DC.
Honoring the Soldier
“Sarah was the kind of student that teachers hoped for. She conducted herself with quiet strength, a contagious smile and a positive energy that inspired those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the leader of her alma mater, told the press. “She was sweet, considerate and always ready to help others.”
Funeral plans for Beckstrom are still being arranged.
Judicial Actions and Policy Revisions
Officials have charged a 29-year-old suspect with one count of homicide and charges of violent assault while carrying a weapon.
The event caused the Trump administration to pause refugee claims and halt granting entry permits to holders of Afghan passports.
Condition of Andrew Wolfe
Wolfe, a native of the city, began his service in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman high school, per the AP.
He remains under medical supervision and is “battling to survive”, the state’s governor the governor mentioned on television.
The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi informed Fox News Sunday that she aimed to speak to his relatives.
Impact of the Fallen Soldier
Sarah, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County high school in June 2023 and began her service not long after, working as a military police officer with distinction, according to the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she absolutely had bravery,” Morrisey informed the gathering at the memorial. “Though her time ended too soon, she has left a mark that’s going to be remembered always.”
