The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for United

The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL side.

Departure from Bayern was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a major uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering momentum.

Their recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen additional activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
