This Swine Life: Hog Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Mayor.
Although not quite at the same level as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the onset of a current administration.
“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a prosperous future away from worry.”
The gathering, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The animal, contributed by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “six-seven” – originating from a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so widespread that a leading lexicon site recently declared “6-7” its top term for the year.
A Future Secured
The pardoned swine is now set to enjoy its days at a farm sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“This swine clemency has become a cherished method to kick off the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.
“It represents the spirit of Miami: vibrant, varied, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Each year, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and cafecito as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
